Artist's Statement

I have always had an intense passion for the arts, and I enjoy nurturing this passion through many creative outlets. I am a Wire Artist - expressing my passion with wire began with wire sculpting and chain maille (which are both ancient art forms using wire to hand-sculpt elegant and functional shapes and forms of artistic jewelry). Wire sculpting was practiced by the Egyptians and Phoenicians over 5,000 years ago. Chain Maille was developed to create pieces of armor - now used to create chains and other forms of jewelry. These art forms diminished over the years but are now re-emerging as unique forms of jewelry art that provides the wearer with a functional piece of jewelry as well as a unique artistic treasure. I have recently expanded my passion with wire to include Wire Crochet and Knitting, and other forms of expression with various metals using primarily cold connection techniques.
I began this journey of learning these arts primarily on my own - since then I have received training from the William Holland School of Lapidary Arts and I am a juried member of the International Wire Artists Guild. I have also completed many masters level classes in wire artistry and wiresmithing techniques.
The passion and inspiration I experience working with wire and gemstones I accept as a gift from God. Many of the gemstones I use in my wire creations are gemstones noted in the Bible. It is fascinating to me these same stones here today have been here for thousands, and in some cases, millions of years. I like to use these stones because they remind me of His everlasting, eternal presence in my life - He is the Alpha and the Omega - the beginning and the end.
